Who is it suitable for?
This session is suitable for Assessors with a Level 7 in dyscalculia or equivalent and are competent to carry out assessments for dyscalculia.
Learning Aims:
This SASC approved course will cover:
The aims and context of the Guidance.
- Current research and how it impacts on our practice.
- Domain specific and domain general factors: what they mean and how to identify them.
- The SASC definition of a SpLD in Mathematics and Dyscalculia
- What should be included in an assessment: best practice in obtaining a range of background information, selection of tests and informal assessment tasks.
- Who can assess for difficulties with Mathematics/Dyscalculia.

- Give opportunities to discuss best practice with fellow professionals.
- Give practical advice on best practice in the assessment of Mathematics.

Trainer - Armande Fryatt
Armande is a highly experienced and qualified specialist assessor. She has been a specialist dyslexia teacher for 30 years, working in a variety of settings (primary, secondary, further education and specialist dyslexia schools). She has been a specialist assessor, and has had an Assessment Practising Certificate consistently for 12 years. Armande serves on the Standardised Test Evaluation Committee, who decide which tests can be used in diagnostic assessments in the UK.
She also works for Patoss (The Professional Association of Teachers of Pupils with Specific Learning Difficulties) mentoring newly qualified and experienced assessors to help improve their professional practice. Armande is a Fellow of the Dyslexia Guild. She also assesses for the BDA and is a member of the APC renewal team at the BDA.
